On-site interception or technical listening refers to listening, recording and other processing with a technical device, procedure or program, of a discussion or a message of the suspect in order to find out the conduct of the suspect. The conversation is not intended to be revealed to third parties and the listener does not in person participate in the conversation. Technical observation refers to observation, or recording, the suspect in an offence or of premises or another place with a camera or similar technical device, procedure or program installed in such place. It may not be directed at a premise used as permanent residence. Technical monitoring refers to the monitoring of movement of an object, substance or property with use of a radio transmitter or other similar technical device. Extended surveillance refers to long term covert observation of a certain person for the purpose of the collection of intelligence. Extended surveillance may not be directed at premises used as a permanent residence.

National Bureau of Investigation An investigator-in-charge or a prosecutor decides on extended surveillance. The court, at the request of an investigator-in-charge or a prosecutor, decides on technical monitoring in all cases, and on technical observation and listening, if the measure is directed at a place covered by domiciliary peace or a prisoner. In other cases technical listening and observation may be authorized by an investigator-in-charge or a prosecutor. An investigator-in-charge may authorize technical monitoring provisionally for a maximum of 24 hours.

Special requirements

A listening device may be installed in the suspect's vehicle in his use, if necessary. The suspect shall be informed at the latest within a year of the termination of the use of a coercive measure.
