A court orders an expert opinion to be acquired, or an inspection to be arranged, or hears an expert when criminal proceedings are pending in the requesting state, or the request specifies that the measure be executed by a court. In other situations the measure is executed by the competent criminal investigation authority. A technical or scientific examination may also be ordered in pre-trial investigation phase upon request of a party, if that party demonstrates that the examination might have a bearing on the case and not incur unreasonable expenses in relation to the gravity of the offence. An investigator-in-charge may request expert statements when necessary.
