Effective from 1 January 2005 every person from 14 years old and older is obliged to identify him -or herself upon request of the police. It does not matter whether or not the person in question is suspected of an offence but the police does have a good reason for it. Failure to show an identification-document is punishable with a fine and the police does have grounds for an arrest for determining the person's identity.

The police

- Concerning the European Investigation Order in criminal matters in Dutch or English. - Concerning the EU Convention on Mutual Assistance in criminal matters between the member states of the European Union (29 May 2000), the European Convention on Mutual Assistance in criminal matters (Strasbourg, 1959) and several bilateral and multilateral treaties one of the official languages of the Council of Europe, English or German or preferably a translation in the Dutch language.

When concerning the European Investigation Order in criminal matters (Directive 2014/41/EU of 3 April 2014) according to the Directive; No deadline applicable, when concerning EU Convention on Mutual Assistance in criminal matters between the member states of the European Union (29 May 2000); the European Convention on Mutual Assistance in criminal matters (Strasbourg, 1959) or several bilateral and multilateral treaties.

Assistance or participation of agents of the requesting State in the execution of the measure is allowed. The measure will be carried out according to Dutch national law
