A letter of request is not required, but in case the provided information will be used as evidence before the court, permission has to be required through a formal letter of request. Spontaneous exchange of information through police channels is allowed.

International legal framework applicable for this measure in your Member State

The Schengen Agreement (19 June 1990); - The EU Convention on Mutual Assistance in criminal matters between the member states of the European Union (29 May 2000), article 7; - Council Framework Decision 2006/960/JHA of 18 December 2006 on simplifying the exchange of information and intelligence between law enforcement authorities of the Member States of the European Union.

Competent Authority

* receive the request/decision for judicial cooperation

The competent authorities are the regional International Legal Assistance Centres (the IRCs) and the National Legal Assistance Centre (LIRC). A special Public Prosecutor authorised to deal with criminal intelligence information. The police is competent to execute the measure. A special Public Prosecutor will be involved by the police.
