Police records can be asked for by the police channels. Criminal Records contain information on a subject's convictions and pending criminal proceedings and must be requested through formal mutual legal assistance requests.

- The Schengen Implementation Convention; - The Convention of the European Union; - Regarding criminal records: the Netherlands have implemented the Framework Decision 2009/315 (ECRIS) of 26 February 2009; - Regarding police records: the Framework Decision 2006/960/JHA of 18 December 2006 on simplifying the exchange of information and intelligence between law enforcement authorities of the Member States of the European Union.
