On 11 November 2021 the CJEU rendered a judgment in the case C-852/19 which is the second time the court provides the interpretation of the Directive 2014/41/EU on the European Investigation Order (EIO) in the criminal proceedings against Ivan Gavanozov.

On 16 November 2021, the CJEU, delivered judgment on case C-479/21 Governor of Cloverhill Prison and Others, concluding that the provisions in the EU-UK Withdrawal Agreement concerning the European arrest warrant/surrender regime with respect to the UK and the provision in the Trade and Cooperation Agreement between the EU and the UK concerning the new surrender mechanism are binding on Ireland.

Last November 5th a regional meeting took place, in Aveiro, Portugal, organised by the Portuguese contact points of the EJN. Besides the presence of the national contact points, twenty two regional Prosecutors, two members of the Eurojust Portuguese desk - one of them is also an EJN contact point; a contact point from France and another one from Spain participated.

Under the Slovenian Presidency, on 18-19 October 2021 took place in Ljubljana, Slovenia the 57th Plenary meeting of the European Judicial Network.

The meeting of the Polish EJN Contact Points, which took place in the premises of the National Prosecutor’s Office in Warsaw, was also attended by the Secretary to the EJN Mr. Ola Löfgren and the liaison prosecutor of the Crown Prosecution Service to Poland Mr. Kiernan Cunningham.

The meeting dealt with the misinformation and misunderstandings in the context of filing the EAW forms and illuminated the crucial problems in the different member states. Guests from Austria, Liechtenstein, the Netherlands, Poland and Switzerland presented numerous interesting individual cases and sensitised our awareness of the particular national needs regarding the information to approve a surrender.

On 17 September 2021, the 13th National Correspondents Meeting of the European Judicial Network (EJN) took place under the Slovenian Presidency of the Council of the European Union, gathering in the online environment 16 participants from the EU Member States and the representatives of the EJN Secretariat.

Focus: Legal effects of COVID-19

The EJN is proud to present the accomplishments of the Network in the reporting period and the support provided by the EJN Contact Points to the national judicial authorities in approximately 14,000 cases.

Almost 100 participants - EJN Contact Points from the EU Member States, EU candidate, potential candidate and EJN associated countries, as well as representatives from Eurojust, EJCN, Genocide network, the European Commission and the General Secretariat of the Council of the EU – gathered to discuss actual topics on judicial cooperation in criminal matters: EAW, e-evidence and freezing and confiscation.
