The Council today adopted a regulation on the mutual recognition of freezing and confiscation orders. The aim of the new rules is to ensure the effective freezing and confiscation of criminal assets across the EU. This will help make the EU more secure by tackling the financing of criminal activities, including acts of terrorism.

The Portuguese National meeting of the European Judicial Network that took place in Aveiro on 7th – 8th May 2018 was attended by 38 participants with the presence of Magistrates from Spain, the Portuguese EJN Contact Points, the members of the national Portuguese network, members of the Portuguese desk at Eurojust, and a representative of the EJN Secretariat.

The main goal of the regional meeting was the exchange of practical knowledge between the EJN contact points from Republic of Austria, Republic of Italy, Republic of Slovenia, Republic of Croatia and EJN contact points of the Western Balkan Countries in the field of judicial cooperation during the pre-trail phase of the proceedings.

Poland organised the 2nd Regional and 9th National Meeting of the Contact Points of the European Judicial Network on 1 and 2 October 2018 in Warsaw, at the premises of the National Prosecutor’s Office.

On 13-14 September State Police of Ministry of Interior of Republic of Latvia (hereafter - State Police of Latvia) hosted a regional meeting involving EJN Contact Points from the judicial authorities of Lithuania, Estonia, Poland, Germany, Sweden, Finland, Turkey, and Taiwan.

On 27th to 28th September 2018 the Swedish Prosecution Authority hosted a regional EJN-meeting in Stockholm.

The 50th Plenary of the European Judicial Network (EJN) took place on 27 – 29 June in Sofia, Bulgaria, under the Bulgarian Presidency of the Council of the European Union.

On 20 June 2018, the Council, following a provisional agreement with the European Parliament, agreed on new rules concerning the mutual recognition of freezing and confiscation orders. The new regulation aims to ensure the effective freezing and confiscation of criminal assets across the EU. This will contribute to making the EU more secure by combating the financing of crime, including terrorist activities.

On 10 April 2018 the Grand Chamber of the Court of Justice of the European Union (CJEU) delivered its judgment in Case C-191/16 Pisciotti.
