A joint investigation team may be particularly established if the investigation of a criminal offence also requires the execution of complex operations in another State or an investigation of a criminal offence is conducted by several States, while the circumstances of the case require a coordinated and joint procedure. The head of the joint investigation team is always a representative of a law enforcement authority of the Slovak Republic; other terms of the activity of the joint investigation team shall be governed by an agreement on its formation. The General Prosecutor´s Office’s Office of the Slovak Republic (hereinafter referred to as “General Prosecutor´s Office’s Office”) is the authority authorised to conclude an agreement on the establishment of a joint investigation team after prior discussion with the Minister of Justice of the Slovak Republic. For the purposes of the Slovak Criminal Procedure Code, a police officer, within the extent of the authority to acts of an investigation, also means a representative of a competent authority of another State, an authority of the European Union, or an authority jointly established by the Member States of the European Union, which is assigned in the joint investigation team formed on the basis of an agreement (Section 10 paragraph 8 of the Code of the Criminal Procedure).
