66th EJN Plenary Meeting in Cyprus focuses on the future of Judicial Cooperation

On 28 and 29 May 2026, Contact Points of the EJN, EU institutions, and judicial cooperation partners gathered in Cyprus for the 66th EJN Plenary Meeting dedicated to the future of judicial cooperation in Europe and beyond.

The meeting was opened by Mrs. Dena Theodorou, Senior Counsel of the Republic of Cyprus and EJN Contact Point. Due to unforeseen circumstances Mr. Costas Fitiris, Minister of Justice and Public Order of Cyprus sent his Deputy. Otherwise Mr. George Savvides, Attorney General of Cyprus, Mr. Peter Csonka, Director at the Directorate-General for Justice and Consumers of the European Commission and Mr. Hugh Dockry, Secretary to the EJN made the opening comments.

The programme featured panel discussions on the future of the EJN, cooperation with non-EU countries and judicial networks, and practical challenges and solutions in judicial cooperation related to environmental crime.

The participants also took part in three dedicated workshops focusing on:

  • the future of the EJN,
  • cooperation with non-EU countries and judicial networks, and
  • environmental crime.

This Plenary Meeting further included dedicated sessions for EU institutions and agencies, as well as for EJN Contact Points and EJN partners. The EJN Secretariat also provided the participants with updates on its recent activities and ongoing work.

The event offered participants an opportunity to exchange experiences, discuss current challenges in cross-border judicial cooperation, and strengthen professional contacts within the EJN Network.
