2024 Plenary meeting of the Southeast Asia Justice Network

From 27 to 29 August, the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) and the Office of the Supreme People’s Prosecutor of Lao PDR organised the 2024 plenary meeting of the Southeast Asia Justice Network (SEAJust) in Vientiane, Lao PDR. On the first day, the event focused on the achievements of the network and panel discussions on expeditious execution of MLAs and tools to strengthen international cooperation. The second day included two workshops: the use of digital evidence and challenges and good practice in recovering assets across border.

Eurojust was represented by Mr Jose De La Mata, National Member for Spain and Chair of the Board on Relations with Partners, and the EJN by Mr Hugh Dockry, Head of the EJN Secretariat. Both delivered presentations and acted as panelists. Otherwise Mr. de la Mata and Mr. Dockry took the opportunity to engage in bilateral meetings with Thailand, the Republic of Korea and Vietnam.

This meeting offered an excellent opportunity to strengthen cooperation between the representatives. Both Eurojust and EJN have a long-lasting relationship with SEAJust. On 23 May 2023, the SEAJust Network launched the electronic evidence fiches in collaboration with the EJN Secretariat.
