On 5 and 6 October 2017 the 1st Regional and 7th National Meeting of the Contact Points of the European Judicial Network took place in Warsaw.

Apart from the Polish Contact Points representing the National Prosecutor’s Office, the Ministry of Justice and 11 regional prosecutors’ offices, representatives of the EJN from the neighbouring countries, i.e. Germany, the Czech Republic, the Slovak Republic, Lithuania and Hungary attended the meeting. The Secretariat of the EJN in The Hague was represented by Mr Ola Löfgren, the Secretary to the EJN and Head of the EJN Secretariat.

The meeting was devoted entirely to the issue of the European Investigation Order in criminal matters (EIO) and first practical experiences of its operation in the Member States, in particular in relation to the scope of the Directive regarding the EIO and rules of cooperation during the transitional period, i.e. until all 26 EU Member States bound by the Directive transpose it. Participants also discussed about novelties of the EIO regime and new challenges vis-à-vis certain investigative measures.

Three Member States represented at the meeting have transposed the Directive to their national systems so far and cooperate on its basis. These are: Germany, Lithuania and Hungary. The EIO will entry into force in the Slovak Republic on 15 October.
