Prosecutors General from European (Belgium, Cyprus, France, Malta, Portugal and Spain) and Mediterranean countries (Algeria, Egypt, Israel, Jordan, Lebanon, Morocco, Palestine, and Tunisia) adopted a declaration aimed at improving their international judicial cooperation. The adoption of this first Declaration of collaboration in the two regions took place under the impetus of EuroMed Justice. As partners of EuroMed Justice, representatives from the major international and regional organizations - EJN, Eurojust, the Council of Europe, UN CTED, UNODC, Europol, Interpol, and IAP - participated in the Forum and assisted in the drafting of the declaration.
EJN stressed the importance of creating a regional network in the Mediterranean region to enhance effective judicial cooperation in criminal matters. The project brought together in Madrid the Prosecutors General of the countries participating in the first meeting of the Euro-Mediterranean Forum of Prosecutors General, the first forum of its kind. Promoted by the Spanish Prosecutor General’s Office, organised by FIIAPP and EIPA under the frame of EuroMed Justice, the forum was well received and welcomed by the Prosecutors General from the participating countries. The forum allowed the Prosecutors General to share experiences and best practices on issues related to the fight against terrorism and organised crime, including human and drug trafficking, and cybercrime. The members of the forum also approved the Roadmap for the consolidation of a framework for the EuroMed Forum of Prosecutors General.
EuroMed Justice (2016-2018) is an EU-funded project which aims to contribute to the development of a Euro-Mediterranean area of cooperation in the field of justice and to the development of effective, efficient and democratic justice systems which protect and promote human rights.The Project is managed by a consortium led by the Fundación Internacional y para Iberoamérica de Administración y Políticas Publicas – FIIAPP (Spain) with its Partners from the Center for International Legal Cooperation – CILC (the Netherlands), the European Institute of Public Administration – EIPA (the Netherlands) and Justice Coopération Internationale – JCI (France).
