By Law no. 149 of 21 July 2016, the Italian Parliament authorised the ratification of the Convention of 29 May 2000 on Mutual Assistance in Criminal Matters between the Member States of the
European Union, and delegated the Government for the adoption of the related, necessary, law provisions, which have to be adopted in the six months following the publication on the Italian Official Journal.
The law for ratification was published on the Italian Official Journal on 4 August 2016 and entered into force the following day.
The next steps will be the adoption by the Government of the necessary legal provisions, the ratification by the President of the Republic, and the notification to the Secretary-General of the Council of the European Union of the completion of the constitutional procedures for the adoption of the Convention.
The Convention will enter into force between Italy and the other Member States that have already ratified it, only 90 days after the notification from Italy to the Secretary-General of the Council of the European Union of the (Article 27(2) and (4) of the 2000 MLA Convention).
