The West African Network of Central Authorities and Prosecutors against Organized Crime (WACAP), launched in May 2013, plays a vital role in strengthening the regions response to transnational organised crime and illicit trafficking. Its objective is to strengthen the capacity of local central authorities, prosecutors and other judicial actors in their fight against organised crime. It does so by enhancing operational cooperation between local judicial authorities responsible in international cooperation.
WACAP facilitates the exchange of (legal) knowledge, procedures and best practices. Moreover, the network has established direct lines of contact between authorities of the member states, increasing the efficiency and success rate of MLA-procedures.
The network’s members are: Benin, Burkina Faso, Cape Verde, Chad, Côte d'Ivoire, the Gambia, Ghana, Guinea, Guinea-Bissau, Liberia, Mali, Mauritania, Niger, Nigeria, Senegal, Sierra Leone, Togo.
