On 17 September, the EJN Secretariat, together with EJN Contact Points from EU Member States and the United States, participated in the EJTN webinar “International Cooperation in Criminal Matters – Mutual Legal Assistance and Extradition with Third Countries: Evidence Gathering with the United States.”
More than 90 judicial practitioners took part in the online training, including representatives of the United States Department of Justice (DoJ), among them the EJN Contact Point for the United States. The training addressed the legal and practical aspects of gathering evidence in the United States in the context of mutual legal assistance and extradition.
This webinar was aimed at judges, prosecutors, judicial practitioners and court staff with prior knowledge of judicial cooperation in criminal matters who wished to further develop their expertise in the field.
Participants gained an in-depth understanding of the applicable legal framework, the main challenges encountered in judicial cooperation with third countries, and the practical tools available to support effective cross-border cooperation.
The training also provided an opportunity for participants to exchange experiences and best practices in cooperation with authorities in the United States, fostering a practical understanding of the mechanisms available for effective judicial cooperation.
