European Judicial Training Network (EJTN)

The European Judicial Training Network (EJTN) was founded by the schools of judges and other institutions specifically responsible for the training of the professional judiciary of all EU-Member States.

EJTN’s 2018 Annual Report recounts the achievements and developments of EJTN over 2018, which has been another exceptionally productive year.

A record number of 6,719 individual judges, prosecutors, trainers and trainees received training in the past year. In 2018, EJTN provided for a record of 34,289 individual training days to Europe’s judiciary. Furthermore, EJTN’s Exchange Programme provided for 2,928 judicial exchange and study visit places.

EJTN also pursued many other important efforts through 2018. At EJTN’s Directors’ Conference in Vienna, the EJTN Strategic Plan 2021-2027 was closely addressed. The plan is set to be formally adopted at EJTN’s upcoming General Assembly in June 2019.

The past year also saw many other key achievements and opened the door to new possibilities. On the basis of an Instrument for Pre-accession Assistance (IPA) with the Directorate-General Neighbourhood and Enlargement Negotiations (DG NEAR), the participation of the judiciary from the Western Balkans in EJTN’s training activities was opened. The important Rule of Law project was initiated, supporting resources for judicial training were created, webinars on timely topics were produced and administrative efficiencies were bolstered through continued improvements of various platforms.
