Third regional meeting of the European Judicial Network Contact Points in Finland

Finland organised a third regional meeting of the European Judicial Network  on 21 and 22 September 2017 in Helsinki, at the premises of the Ministry of Justice. The two previous EJN  regional meetings organised by Finland had taken place in 2011 and 2014.

Together with Finnish EJN Contact Points and representatives from other Finnish authorities involved in international cooperation, participants  from Sweden, Estonia and Latvia attended the meeting. Mr Ola Löfgren, Secretary to the European Judicial Network was also present.

The sole topic on the agenda was the European Investigation Order in criminal matters (EIO). At the time of the meeting, all participating Member States had transposed the EIO Directive into national legislation, except for Sweden.

Each participating Member State had been given a subtopic (e.g. national implementation, measures falling outside the scope of EIO, application of other bilateral or multilateral agreements) to prepare for the meeting. At the end of the meeting, a short practical exercise took place. The chair had distributed in advance a mock case to each participating state and they presented to the other Member States  any problems they found in filling in the EIO form.

The meeting was quite informal and many interesting issues were discussed.
